What a Session Looks Like at Lifespan Pilates

A Glimpse Inside the Work We Teach Every Day

If you’re new to Pilates—or new to the way we teach it at Lifespan—you might be wondering what to expect from a session. Spoiler: it’s not random, it’s not trendy, and it’s definitely not a playlist-driven flow.

It’s a System, Not a Series of Exercises

At Lifespan Pilates, every session is grounded in Contrology™, the method developed by Joseph Pilates and refined by Romana Kryzanowska.

This means:

  • The session is built around progressive order and purposeful transitions

  • We work from the center out—from powerhouse to periphery

  • You’ll use the full system: Reformer, Mat, Tower, Cadillac, Chairs, Barrels, and more

Repetition With Progress

Don’t expect a brand new routine every visit. The magic of this method is in the repetition with progression. As your strength, control, and understanding grow, the work deepens. It’s not about variation for variation’s sake—it’s about building mastery.

Hands-On, Not Hands-Off

You’ll receive attentive guidance, corrections, and encouragement from a fully trained instructor who understands the method and sees your potential. The hands-on aspect is deliberate, respectful, and rooted in decades of lineage-based teaching.

Every Body Is Met Where It Is

Whether you’re a professional athlete or haven’t exercised in years, we start with what your body needs—and build from there. Romana’s Pilates system is scalable, demanding, and deeply supportive.
