5 Questions People Ask About Romana’s Pilates—Answered
Let’s Clear Up the Confusion
We get a lot of great questions from new clients and future instructors. Here are five of the most common ones—and honest answers from our studio team.
Is Romana’s Pilates the same as “classical” Pilates?
Not exactly. While people often lump it in with classical styles, Romana’s Pilates is distinct. It’s close to how Joe taught it, refined through Romana’s direct experience.
What’s the difference between this and contemporary Pilates?
Contemporary styles often add variations, or choreography. At Lifespan, we stay with the full original system, as it was designed. It’s progressive, structured, and deeply effective.
Why was the system called Contrology™?
Because that’s what Joseph Pilates called it. The name reflects the method’s purpose: coordination of body, mind, and spirit through controlled movement.
Can anyone do this work?
Yes—but it meets you where you are. You’ll work hard and grow steadily. This is a system for every body, not just dancers or athletes.
Is certification through Romana’s Pilates really that different?
Yes. It’s not a weekend course—it’s a full apprenticeship. You learn by doing, by teaching, and by living the work.
